<\/a><\/p>\nThese are some of the racks with hot servers.\u00a0 These “temporary” fans have been like this for weeks<\/span> (months now…).\u00a0 The cluster of small fans falls over flat on the floor every couple of days.\u00a0 The servers it is blowing on immediately complain afterwards of being too hot.\u00a0 So we go prop the fans up again.<\/p>\n There are also fans sitting on wooden blocks under the floor in the vain attempt to get more cold air into the cold aisle.\u00a0 I’m not sure it works.\u00a0 I’m also not sure what the fire marshal would say about stacks of combustible wooden blocks under the floor.<\/p>\n When we suggested that maybe putting some blank panels into the racks would help separate cold air from hot air, this is what we got.<\/p>\n We don’t have any automatic systems to monitor environmentals.\u00a0 We do, however, have these fish tank temperature strips hanging up all over the place.\u00a0 If we had someone tasked to go and record the temperatures at various times at different locations and collate that together in a useful way, that’d be alright, I suppose.\u00a0 But we don’t.\u00a0 They are basically up for show, so when we ask “Hey, wouldn’t some sort of monitoring system be a good idea?” we are told “But we have the temperature strips…”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" We have an older machine room that has been through many years of equipment changes.\u00a0 As a result, it doesn’t have *ahem* optimal cooling systems.\u00a0 Some of our more active systems have been having cooling issues recently, and here’s what… Continue Reading <\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
