Oracle 10g DBA OCP – Passed 1Z0-040, Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Administrators today

I’ve been an Oracle geek a long time, I’ve been certified since Oracle 8 days.  Recently I haven’t kept up with these like I should, so I decided to freshen my certification up before Oracle retired the upgrade exams.  I’m a current Oracle 9i Database Administrator Oracle Certified Professional (DBA OCP), so to get Oracle 10g DBA OCP all I need is to pass the 10g upgrade exam (1Z0-040) .

This one was “like I remembered”.  Pretty straightforward.  I read a big fat book.  Actually did some of the practice exercises from the book.  Did the cheapo computerized practice exams that came with the book.  Bought a real practice exam from Kaplan Self Test and did it like 50 times until I always scored 100%.

Last I took an Oracle exam, their exam vendor was Prometric.  They have since changed to Pearson Vue.  Having used both vendors (Microsoft uses Prometric), I’d say Pearson Vue is much friendlier.  Prometric’s web site is often down or slow.  I like Pearson’s web site better.  I like the formatting of the emails they send you (i.e. the registration confirmation email has directions to the test site included at the bottom).  The test engine lets you right click possible answer to cross them out (handy when you are trying to exclude distractors).  All in all, taking a test with Pearson Vue was a better experience.

Now I need to take the 11g upgrade test

  1. Hi Greg,

    Congrats on clearing the exam..

I’m planning to give the same exam soon, wanted to know that is there any difference with respect to questions asked between Oracle 10g Release1 and Release2. I’m sure the portion for the exam is the same, however, is there any specific I need to concentrate on for Oracle 10g R2.

Appreciate any advice I can get.

    Thanks,
    Latesh
